How to import servers to South Africa: NRCS, VAT and delivery

South Africa anchors the continent’s data-center market. The two things to line up are the NRCS approval for regulated electrical goods and your SARS importer registration. Here is the tax picture and the route from Hangzhou to Johannesburg or Cape Town.

NRCS, SARS and the tax picture

Regulated electrical goods need a Letter of Authority (LOA) from the NRCS (National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications); wireless gear also needs ICASA type approval. To import you register with SARS Customs and get an importer customs code.

On import you pay 15% VAT plus import duty on some IT hardware. We prepare the documents an NRCS application needs and coordinate with your clearing agent.

  • NRCS Letter of Authority for regulated electrical goods.
  • ICASA type approval for wireless/radio equipment.
  • SARS importer registration; VAT 15% + duty at import.

Delivery and clearance

We ship every server by air. Your forwarder flies the shipment to South Africa and delivers it to your site, and door-to-door delivery takes 1–2 weeks.

Clearance goes through SARS. Your forwarder or clearing agent files the declaration, presents the NRCS LOA where required, and settles VAT and duty on DAP/DDP terms. Many buyers spec redundant power for load-shedding.

The import flow, step by step

We sell EXW Hangzhou. For first-time importers we help appoint a forwarder who books the air freight, exports from China, clears SARS, and delivers to Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban.

You see the landed cost, including VAT and duty, before anything ships, and warranty RMA uses advance replacement shipped from Hangzhou.

  • Send your spec. We reply within 1 hour during business hours (Mon–Fri 09:00–19:00 Beijing time, UTC+8) with an EXW Hangzhou quote.
  • We assemble, burn-in 24–72 h, and provide documents for NRCS where needed.
  • Forwarder flies the shipment to South Africa, clears SARS, delivers DAP/DDP.
  • 1-year warranty with advance-replacement RMA.
