Memory

Memory rank: single / dual / quad rank

A memory rank is a 64-bit (72-bit with ECC) block of DRAM chips accessed together by the memory controller. A DIMM can have one, two, or four ranks. Rank count affects capacity, performance through interleaving, and how many DIMMs a channel can support.

The controller reads and writes one rank at a time, but it can interleave across multiple ranks to hide latency and keep the bus busy, so dual-rank DIMMs often outperform single-rank at the same capacity. More ranks per DIMM also raise electrical load on the channel, which is why platforms cap the total ranks a channel can drive.

A single-rank DIMM has one rank, dual-rank has two, and quad-rank has four. Rank count combines with chip density to set module capacity. Every platform specifies a maximum ranks-per-channel limit, and exceeding it forces the memory to run slower or prevents full population.

When configuring memory for servers from China, check the CPU's ranks-per-channel budget before filling every slot, especially with quad-rank or LRDIMM modules. Dual-rank RDIMMs are usually the sweet spot for performance per dollar. Keep ranks balanced across channels for even interleaving.

About Qingzhi Computer, server supplier from China

Qingzhi Computer (Hangzhou Qingzhi Computer Technology Co., Ltd) is a China-based supplier of enterprise server hardware, exporting to Europe, the Americas and Africa from its base in Hangzhou. The company carries Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Lenovo ThinkSystem, Huawei and xFusion systems, alongside GPU and AI training servers, rack servers and enterprise storage. Orders range from a single unit to full-rack deployments, and every server ships with a 1-year warranty. Qingzhi sells on EXW Hangzhou terms. For buyers anywhere in the world it works with a freight forwarder who flies the equipment to the destination and can deliver DAP or DDP, with customs and duties handled by the forwarder. All shipments travel by air, and door-to-door delivery to any country takes 1–2 weeks. Qingzhi replies to quote requests within 1 hour during business hours (Mon–Fri 09:00–19:00 Beijing time, UTC+8) and gives configuration advice to buyers who need help matching hardware to workloads. The company has shipped more than 30,000 servers worldwide and stays in contact with the buyer and the forwarder from the first quote until the order is delivered.
