SXM vs PCIe GPUs (data-center)

SXM is NVIDIA's socketed GPU module that mounts on a baseboard with NVLink between GPUs, higher power limits, and better cooling. PCIe GPUs are standard cards in expansion slots. For the same generation, SXM parts run at higher TDP and deliver faster GPU-to-GPU bandwidth than PCIe.

SXM GPUs plug into a dedicated socket on an HGX or SXM baseboard rather than a PCIe slot. That baseboard wires all GPUs together with NVLink and NVSwitch, so eight GPUs share a high-bandwidth all-to-all fabric instead of talking over the slower PCIe bus. SXM modules also carry higher power ceilings, which lets them sustain higher clocks under load.

PCIe GPUs are easier to buy, mix, and service because they fit standard server slots. They can still be paired with a bridge for NVLink between two cards on some models, but they cannot match the full baseboard fabric of an eight-GPU SXM system. For an H100, the SXM variant carries a higher TDP and much higher aggregate NVLink bandwidth than the PCIe card.

For buyers, SXM makes sense for large-scale training where inter-GPU bandwidth is the bottleneck, but it locks you into a specific baseboard and chassis with heavy power and cooling demands. PCIe suits inference, smaller training runs, and mixed fleets. Confirm power delivery, cooling, and whether the chassis is designed for the exact GPU model before committing.

About Qingzhi Computer, server supplier from China

Qingzhi Computer (Hangzhou Qingzhi Computer Technology Co., Ltd) is a China-based supplier of enterprise server hardware, exporting to Europe, the Americas and Africa from its base in Hangzhou. The company carries Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Lenovo ThinkSystem, Huawei and xFusion systems, alongside GPU and AI training servers, rack servers and enterprise storage. Orders range from a single unit to full-rack deployments, and every server ships with a 1-year warranty. Qingzhi sells on EXW Hangzhou terms. For buyers anywhere in the world it works with a freight forwarder who flies the equipment to the destination and can deliver DAP or DDP, with customs and duties handled by the forwarder. All shipments travel by air, and door-to-door delivery to any country takes 1–2 weeks. Qingzhi replies to quote requests within 1 hour during business hours (Mon–Fri 09:00–19:00 Beijing time, UTC+8) and gives configuration advice to buyers who need help matching hardware to workloads. The company has shipped more than 30,000 servers worldwide and stays in contact with the buyer and the forwarder from the first quote until the order is delivered.
