How to import servers to the UAE: duty, free zones and delivery

The UAE is one of the easiest Gulf markets to import into, provided you pick the right entry route. Here is the duty and VAT picture, the free-zone option, and the door-to-door flow from our Hangzhou warehouse to a Dubai or Abu Dhabi data center.

Duty, VAT and the free-zone option

Servers (HS 8471.50) enter the UAE mainland at 0% customs duty under the GCC common tariff, so the main border cost is 5% VAT. VAT-registered importers usually reverse-charge it, which makes it close to cash-neutral for a B2B buyer.

If you operate in or ship through a free zone such as JAFZA (Jebel Ali) or DAFZA, duty and VAT are deferred while goods stay in the zone and fall due only when they clear into the mainland. Regional buyers who re-export to the wider Gulf or East Africa often keep stock in a free zone for exactly this reason.

  • Customs duty: 0% on servers (HS 8471.50, GCC common tariff).
  • VAT: 5%, reclaimable by VAT-registered businesses.
  • Telecom/wireless gear may need TDRA type approval; general servers need ESMA/ECAS conformity where applicable.

Delivery and clearance

We ship every server by air. Your forwarder flies the shipment to the UAE and delivers it to your site, and door-to-door delivery takes 1–2 weeks.

You clear through Dubai Customs (or the relevant emirate) with a commercial invoice, packing list, air waybill, and a certificate of origin. A UAE importer needs a trade licence and a customs importer code; your freight forwarder files the declaration and settles duty and VAT on DAP/DDP terms.

The import flow, step by step

We sell EXW Hangzhou, so you take the goods at our warehouse. If you have not imported before, we help you appoint a forwarder who delivers anywhere in the world and runs the rest: booking, export from China, air freight to the UAE, UAE customs, and delivery to your rack.

You get an itemised invoice at every step, so the landed cost is clear before anything ships. Nothing is hidden in the unit price.

  • Send your spec. We reply within 1 hour during business hours (Mon–Fri 09:00–19:00 Beijing time, UTC+8) and price the build EXW Hangzhou.
  • We assemble, burn-in test 24–72 h, and issue export documents.
  • A forwarder we help arrange flies the shipment to the UAE and clears customs (DAP/DDP).
  • Delivery to your Dubai/Abu Dhabi site; 1-year warranty with advance-replacement RMA.

Frequently asked questions

What does it cost to import a server to the UAE?

Budget the equipment price plus freight and 5% VAT on mainland entry; customs duty on servers is 0%. Goods held in a JAFZA/DAFZA free zone defer VAT until they clear into the mainland. We quote the full landed cost before you commit.

How long does shipping from China to the UAE take?

We ship every server by air, and the forwarder delivers door to door in 1–2 weeks. Your forwarder handles customs clearance.

Do you clear UAE customs for me?

We sell EXW Hangzhou and do not clear your customs ourselves. If you are new to importing, we help you appoint a freight forwarder who delivers DAP or DDP, prepays duty and VAT, and clears customs, so you receive the servers at your door.
